Giver

This is what Lois Lowry had to say to a student when she asked about the end of the book:

Student Question: My teachers argue over the ending of The Giver! How does it really end?
Lois Lowry: It ends with Jonas and Gabriel going downhill in a sled toward a house with welcoming lights. Ho ho ho. Aren't I a mean author, not to be more specific? I like it when you argue. It makes you think.

What i got from this is that is Lois Lowry didn't exactly make an ending to the giver and wanted people to make their own ending. she put that there so people could think and enjoy the giver instead of just having an end and just stop there.

Another thing Lois had to say about the end of the giver:

Of course there are those who could say I can't write a sequel because they die. That's true if I just said, Well, too bad, sorry, they died there in the snow, therefore that's the end, no more books. But I don't think that. I think they're out there somewhere and I think that their life has changed and their life is happy and I would like to think that's true for the people they left behind as well.

Here are two different sights of opinion, one says that she wants you to think and make up your own ending and on the other hand she says that they live. Personally i think that they live, because i don't want there to be a sad and boring ending. It has to be exciting and able to go on to a new life. So here is my ending.

He got closer and closer to the lights until he was so cold he fainted, later that night he woke up with a glass of water next to him and sitting by the fire. Gabriel was in the seat next to him. He heard footsteps coming near him, he quickly shut his eyes. he felt someone jiggling his leg, He opened his eyes. It was a little girl who looked about a five, she looked up at me and asked
     "Who are you?"
i told her i had com here from a different community, i told her to go get her mother so she did. Once i saw her i was shocked, it was Rosemary. She was thirteen years older then me and had  two kids. I told her all about how the giver loved her, she told me that she also ran away right before they were going to kill her. i felt bad that the giver did not come with us. Later that evening we were still taking, she let us stay for the night. but it ended up we stayed longer, a lot longer. She took in me and Gabe as her own and lived like we have known eachother forever. i eventually went on to become the leader of that community and Gabe was my bets friend.
